چکیده
We investigate the performance of waveguide Bragg gratings as a function of imperfections introduced in the fabrication process. Effects of stitching errors introduced in the electron-beam and UV-lithography are discussed in details. Optical pulse compression based on nonlinear silicon waveguides and chirped Bragg gratings
Due to the growing demand for higher bandwidth, employing optical devices instead of electronic devices in data transmission systems has attracted much attention in recent years. Optical switches, modulators and wavelength converters are a few examples of the required optical devices. CMOS compatible fabrication of these devices, leads to much more growing of this technology. Optical pulse comp...

We propose a method for miniaturization of filters based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings, so that long structures can be packed into a small area on a chip. This eliminates the stitching errors introduced in the fabrication process, which compromise the performance of long Bragg gratings. Our approach relies on cascading curved waveguide Bragg gratings with the same radius of curvature. An a...

We have developed a new approach for producing high performance sampled Bragg gratings in planar waveguides as a platform for WDM on-chip signal processing in a compact integrated device. Using this method we have successfully integrated a shadow mask directly onto a chalcogenide (As(2)S(3)) waveguide using standard semiconductor processing, eliminating misalignment errors between the mask and ...
متن کاملDemonstration of mode conversion using anti-symmetric waveguide Bragg gratings.
We experimentally demonstrate a novel grating which only produces reflection with mode conversion in a two-mode waveguide. That characteristic can improve the performance of optical devices that currently use tilted Bragg gratings to provide the mode conversion. Tilted Bragg gratings produce also reflections without mode conversion which increases noise and crosstalk of the optical device.

The use of a complex short-period (Bragg) grating which combines matched periodic modulations of refractive index and loss/gain allows asymmetrical mode coupling within a contra-directional waveguide coupler. Such a complex Bragg grating exhibits a different behavior (e.g. in terms of the reflection and transmission spectra) when probed from opposite ends. More specifically, the grating has a s...
